About Us
Raymond has been involved in sprint car racing since he was a teenager, he first became interested in the sport at 17 when his neighbour, Tony Cochrane, invited him along to Archerfield Speedway to help out on the pit crew and Raymond’s passion for sprint car racing began. Tony and Raymond made a great duo, Tony the Crew Chief with Raymond the Tyre Guy and a lifelong friendship was born - the two became inseparable at the race track.
They have worked on many a race car team together in Australia including Paul Lindberg in the early days, Greg Hodnett on the World Series Tour, Dean McComb with the Titan Racing Team, Darrell Hodges and USA hotshot Tim Kaeding.
Raymond spent 2 years in 97/98 in the USA pit crewing on the Selma Shell Race Team with Greg Hodnett at the wheel on the World of Outlaws Series. Raymond crisscrossed the USA countryside visiting over 100 race tracks. This is also where the name ‘Racing Raymond’ was coined by his fellow team mates. Raymond purchased his first model diecast from Roger Johnson who owned Kele & Associates, it was a limited edition Sammy Swindell 50th Anniversary Channel Lock Sprint Car.
Raymond met his wife Jodie in 1993 at a night club is Brisbane. Jodie's sister is former sprint car driver, Kathy Kelly and has they have been involved in speedway for a long time. Their parents, Jim and Anne Maxwell raced stock cars in Sydney in their early 20’s and frequently took their three daughters to various speedways including Archerfield and the Ekka Speedway in Brisbane to watch. Kathy followed in her dad’s footsteps and drove a sprint car in her 20’s and the entire family helped out on the pit crew (mainly scraping mud!). Kathy retired to start a family with her husband John Kelly who is also a retired sprint car driver and they now manage Brisbane International Speedway at Archerfield in Brisbane.
You can find Raymond & Jodie on any given Saturday night during racing season at Brisbane International Speedway, Jodie helping out in the speedway office and Raymond selling his diecast model race cars at the Racing Raymond stand.
Raymond’s personal Diecast collection includes over 100 cars incorporating Sprint Cars, Midgets, Vintage Sprint Cars and Champ Cars – all of these are limited editions and some very rare.
From Raymond’s passion of motorsport and diecast collectable model race cars his business ‘Racing Raymond’ was created. Raymond’s philosophy is to keep his prices at an affordable level so people can grow their collections as he has done himself.
